2014 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Sonoma County
Every year, we do something different with our wine and this year is no exception. Past wines have had lower alcohol levels and with the 2014 vintage, we took it up a notch to 14.1% to mirror medium level alcohol levels commonly found in Californian wines.
Similar to our previous vintage, the 2014 is a blend of Pommard, which gives the wine its elegance, and two Dijon clones that add dimensions of character and expression. Fermentation started out with a 4 day cold soak with 20% whole cluster and had 15 days of fermentation in total. It was aged for 11 months in French Oak with 30% being new oak and was bottled in September 2015.
The wine is an excellent representation of a Burgundian style Pinot made with a subtle touch of California. The nose is delightful with hints of fresh berries, dark cherries and forest floor. As this medium weight wine glides across your palette, one tastes berry cobbler, mocha and vanilla bean and senses a beautiful mouth feel, sweet mid-palate, polished tannins and great length.
The 2014 vintage was one of the best vintages California has ever seen. An early start in the Spring meant an early finish in the fall due to the near perfect growing conditions.
